Happy Monday! Hope you all had a great week of reading and anything that you enjoy doing. My New England Patriots won and dare I say, look like they will make another run for the Super Bowl. Also as far as reading goes, I hit a major milestone and have read over 200 book for 2019.
Here is a recap of what got to that milestone.
Eyes to the Wind – This is a memoir from Ady Barkan who is suffering from ALS but a force to reckon with in the political world. This one will give you all the feels. I have heard him speak many times but loved getting to know him outside of politics. Have a tissue box handy.
Opioid, Indiana – Very timely novel written about the effects of the Opioid epidemic. This book is not all sad, the main character is a teenage boy who gets suspended for one week from school. This story takes place in those days, there is adventure and some laughs. Release Date, September 17, 2019
The Secrets We Kept – Reese Witherspoon’s September Book Club book, need I say more. This is a historical fiction novel that centers around the manuscript of Doctor Zhivago. When I read this, I did not know this history of this book. Lara Prescott did a fantastic job weaving this tale. I could not put this one down.
State of Union – I am huge Nick Hornby fan, but this one of saddest little books I have ever read. This novella takes place over 10 weeks. A married couple is in counseling, these are the 10 conversations the couple has in a bar preceding each session. Super depressing in my opinion.
A Curious Beginning – I read this book the Modern Mrs. Darcy September Book Club pick. Cozy mysteries are not in my wheelhouse, but still had high hopes. Unfortunately this missed the mark for me and boy the ending just felt so unbelievable. I know people love this series, this one just was not for me.
March Sisters – This short essay collection from four authors that talk about how Little Women influenced them. Each essay is about one sister, while I can feel how each author loved this book, this felt extremely superficial to me.
Without Her – Hidden Gem of the week. This beautiful novel has been out since July and is not getting any of the praise it deserves. The story is around two lifelong friends, and one goes missing. The writing is simply beautiful. Highly recommend this one.
What did you all read this week?
