Woohoo, for everyone in the US we finally made it to Thanksgiving week. I can’t tell you how much I have been looking forward to this. I do have to work through Wednesday, but have part of next week off, so there will be plenty of downtime. I intend on catching up on The Crown, Christmas shopping, spending lots of time with my family and yes, I will get a lot of reading also. I hope whatever your plans are, you get some relaxation and lots of reading in.
This week, I was able to read six books. I personally feel like I am in the everything is just ok right now. The good news, the books are keeping me reading, so to me that is a good thing, just missing some sparkle.
Stay – This is a historical fiction taking place in 1969. This story is about a teen who finds himself thrust into multiple life events when he starts with the simple act of running with two dogs. It was a bit slow for me, but I feel the author was trying for something sensational. I know there is going to be a large audience for this book. Publication, December 3, 2019
The Bromance Book Club – This was a fun fluffy romance novel from the perspective of a man trying to win his wife back. His friends get him to join a romance book club. This was a lot of fun, but I doubt I will remember in to a few months.
Husband Material – Do not let the cover fool you, this was a deep novel, about a 29 year old woman confronting the death of her husband five years ago. It is not all doom and gloom, but this was not a chicklit book like the cover makes it out to be. I really enjoyed this one a lot. I absolutely did not want to put this down. Resistance Women – This is the first of two WWII historical fiction books I read this week. This was a multiple POV, the perspective of three women in Germany from Pre-WWII to right until the end of the War. Two of the characters were based on real women. This was utterly heartbreaking, but loved the author’s take on this time period that is so saturated right now.
The Huntress – This is my second attempt at this book and I am glad that I was able to get through this. Another WWII novel with multiple POV’s but this focuses more on the aftermath of the war. The author did a great job shocking me in the end. This was a solid read.
White Elephant – This is a quick little who-done-it Christmas tale. For the better part of this story, I was like why do I care about this, but the ending was strong. I listened to this audiobook and it comes in just over 5 hrs, so it is not too time consuming.
Well that’s it for me. Happy Thanksgiving to those of you who celebrate. See you soon!
